Remember, you have a 30-day grace period after your license expires, so you can renew without any penalties during that time. However, if you miss that window, you’ll incur a monthly fine of AED 10, which can add up to a maximum of AED 500.

Step By Step Guide To Renew Driving License Dubai Online & By Person

Let’s explore the different methods for driving license renewal in Dubai, whether you prefer to do it online or visit an office in person. I’ll guide you through each step of the process, complete with images to make it easy for you to follow along.

Documents Requirement for Dubai Driving License Renewal Online

To ensure a smooth renewal process for your Dubai driving license, you’ll need to prepare specific documents based on your nationality. Here’s a detailed list to guide you:

For All Nationalities

  1. Valid Emirates ID: This is essential for identification.
  2. Eye Test Report: Must be valid for two years. Make sure to get this from an approved eye test center.
  3. Medical Fitness Test: If your profession is listed as “driver,” you’ll need to pass a comprehensive medical test at an RTA-accredited hospital.

For Diplomats

  1. Letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: This serves as official documentation for your application.
  2. Emirates ID: If available.
  3. Diplomatic Card: Required for employees of Embassies, Consulates, and International Organizations in lieu of the Emirates ID.

For People of Determination

  1. Medical Certificate: A copy of the certificate confirming your condition, issued by the Licensing Agency.

For Emirati Passport Holders Without a Family Book (Marsoom Holders)

  1. Original Valid Passport: Essential for identification.
  2. Copy of the Valid Marsoom: To verify your residency status.

For Emirati Passport Holders Who Are Sons of Emirati Women

  1. Copy of the Valid Passport: For identity verification.
  2. Letter from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs: This should confirm that your mother is Emirati.

Method 01: Driving License Renewal in Dubai By RTA Website

Follow the guide below to renew your driving license in Dubai by RTA website.

Go to RTA official website by clicking on the link.

Go to “Vehicle & Car Owner” in the menu.

Go to “Driving License” and click on the “Renew a Driving License” option.

Click on the “Apply Now” button.

Click on the “Apply Now” button.

Now you can start the process by Emirates ID or Driving License number.

You can also login to your account by UAE PASS. Moreover, you can also login with your RTA account.

If you choose to start the process with driving license, then enter the driving license number in the box.

Select driving license issue date.

You will receive “OTP SMS” on your registered mobile number. Enter the code and click on the “Continue” button.

You can see your driving license information on your screen.

Now click on the “Next” button and review information for any correction.

You can choose the option to receive your driving license.

After payment procedure is complete, you can download the digital version of your renewed driving license.

Method 02: Dubai License Renewal by RTA Mobile App

If you are using the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) mobile application, you can also renew your driving license easily. 

Open the RTA mobile app on your smartphone and log in to your account.

Tap on the “Driver & License” option from the main menu.

Fill in the required information in the designated fields:

  • License Number
  • Issue Date
  • Traffic Code Number
  • Birth Year

Click the “Next” button. You’ll see your name and license details on the screen. If your eye test is valid, it will display “Pass.”

  • Kiosk
  • Collection
  • Courier

Review and accept the “Terms & Conditions,” then click on the “Pay & Renew” button.

Choose your preferred payment method and click the “Pay” button.

Once your payment is processed, you’ll receive an SMS with a link to access the digital copy of your license. You can also download it directly from the RTA app.

Method 03: Driver License Renewal by Mahboub Chatbot

You can easily renew your Dubai driving license online through the Mahboub Chatbot on the RTA website. Follow these simple steps for a hassle-free renewal:

  1. Open the chatbot window on the RTA website and type “Renew Driving Licence.”
  2. When prompted, enter the following details:
    • Traffic file number
    • License issuance date (in YYYY format)
    • Birth year (in YYYY format)
    • Driver’s license number
  3. Select the option to receive an electronic document sent to your registered email. Keep in mind, additional delivery charges will apply based on your selected option, typically ranging from AED 20 to AED 50.

First, head to any RTA service center where you’ll find smart kiosks.

Once at the kiosk, choose “English” to navigate the options easily.

Look for the option that says “Renew Driving License.” There are many other services available, but we’re focusing on license renewal today.

After entering your details, click on “Search.” The kiosk will display your license information.

You can pay via cash or card. I prefer cash, so I inserted the money into the designated slot. (Note: it may take a moment for the machine to process your payment.)

The machine will show a countdown as it processes your renewal. It usually takes a couple of minutes.

Once processed, your renewed driving license will be printed and dispensed from the machine.
