RTA Expands Exit 55 on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road E311

Key Upgrades at Exit 55 on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road E311

1. Expanded Traffic Overlap Distance

The upgrade project includes extending the traffic overlap distance along a 600-meter stretch of the road. This extension is designed to improve traffic flow by providing more space for vehicles to merge safely and efficiently.

2. Addition of a New Lane

To accommodate the increasing number of vehicles, a new lane has been added to Exit 55, bringing the total number of lanes to three. This addition significantly boosts the capacity of the exit, allowing it to handle more traffic without causing congestion.

Benefits of the Upgrades of the Expansion of E311 Road

1. Reduced Travel Time

One of the most notable benefits of the expansion is the dramatic reduction in travel time. The journey from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Rebat Street towards Business Bay Crossing has been cut from 10 minutes to just 4 minutes, representing a 60 percent decrease. This improvement means faster and more efficient commutes for drivers.

2. Increased Traffic Capacity

The capacity of Exit 55 has increased by 50 percent, rising from 3,000 vehicles per hour to 4,500 vehicles per hour. This increase in capacity helps to accommodate the growing volume of traffic in Dubai, reducing the likelihood of traffic jams and improving overall road safety.

3. Enhanced Traffic Safety

The surface expansion and the addition of a new lane directly contribute to improved traffic safety. With more space and better traffic management, the risk of accidents is reduced, making the road safer for all users.

Part of a Broader Initiative

The expansion of Exit 55 is part of a larger initiative by the RTA, which includes traffic improvements at 45 locations across Dubai in 2024. These projects are designed to keep pace with Dubai’s rapid urban development and population growth.

By enhancing the road infrastructure, the RTA aims to support the city’s sustainable growth and improve the quality of life for its residents.

Supporting Sustainable Growth

1. Addressing Urban Development Needs

Dubai is a rapidly growing city, and its infrastructure needs to keep up with this growth. The RTA’s improvements are essential for supporting the city’s development and ensuring that the road network can handle the increasing number of vehicles.

2. Enhancing Resident Well-Being

Improving traffic flow and reducing travel times contribute to the overall well-being and happiness of Dubai’s residents. Less time spent in traffic means more time for personal activities, leading to a better quality of life.

3. Promoting Road Safety

Safety is a top priority for the RTA. By implementing these upgrades, the authority is taking proactive steps to make the roads safer for all users. Better traffic management and increased capacity reduce the chances of accidents, making the roads safer for drivers and pedestrians alike.
