Sheikh Rashid Corridor Project: Traffic Flow in Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets

Exciting news for Dubai residents and commuters! The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has just announced a massive new development project as part of the Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development, following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and with the oversight of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

This project is set to transform traffic flow and reduce congestion in key areas of the city, specifically focusing on Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets.

Why is this project a game-changer? Let me break it down for you:

Sheikh Rashid Corridor Project Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets

Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project

The Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project will increase road capacity by an impressive 50%. This means that Oud Metha Street will be able to handle 15,600 vehicles per hour (compared to 10,400 now).

What’s even more exciting is that this upgrade will reduce travel time from 20 minutes down to just 5 minutes — an incredible 75% improvement! Imagine how much easier it will be to navigate through some of Dubai’s busiest areas like Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Umm Hurair, and even reach Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club more efficiently.

Four New Major Intersections

The project includes the construction of four major intersections that will help reduce traffic jams and improve road safety. Some of the key highlights include:

  • A new left-turn lane at the Oud Metha and Sheikh Rashid Street Intersection, which will boost traffic capacity to 1,800 vehicles per hour and help alleviate congestion on the service roads.
  • Two new bridges at the Oud Metha and Al Asayel Street Intersection. One will connect Al Asayel to Al Khail Road, with a capacity to carry 6,000 vehicles per hour, allowing smooth access and exit between these busy roads.
  • A new two-lane bridge at the Al Nawras and Al Khail Road Intersection, which will help traffic flow towards Business Bay Crossing, handling up to 3,000 vehicles per hour.
  • Significant improvements at the Zabeel Palace Street Intersection will double the capacity for traffic heading towards Dubai-Al Ain Road, expanding current lanes to accommodate even more vehicles.

A Brighter Future for Dubai Traffic

With a focus on the city’s long-term growth, this development is expected to serve an estimated population of over 420,000 people by 2030. It’s not just about managing today’s traffic but also preparing Dubai’s infrastructure for tomorrow’s needs.

Additionally, the RTA has already made significant improvements to Ras Al Khor Road, expanding it from three lanes to six lanes in each direction, boosting capacity to handle 10,000 vehicles per hour. These projects are all part of Dubai’s larger vision to provide smoother, faster, and safer transport options across the city.

What Does This Mean for You?

If you’re a frequent commuter in areas like Zabeel, Oud Metha, or Al Jaddaf, these improvements are going to make your daily commute much quicker and hassle-free. Say goodbye to long delays and hello to smoother journeys through key roads and intersections that are designed to handle more traffic efficiently.
